Greek-Middle Passives
Some sentences that show a reflexive use of the passive voice, similar to the Greek middle voice. The construction is limited to articles of clothing and body parts. (Highlighting is limited to verb + object whenever feasible.)
- Aeneas maestō defixus lumina vultū (Vergil Aen. 6.156)
- ardentīsque oculōs suffectī sanguine et ignī (Vergil Aen. 2.210)
- Dixit, et os impressa torō, "Moriēmur inultae, sed moriāmus," ait. (Vergil Aen. 4.659-660)
- inutile ferrum cingitur
(Vergil Aen. 2.510-511) - Maeoniā mentum mitrā crīnemque madentem subnexus (Vergil Aen. 4.216-217)
- nuda genu nodōque sinūs collecta fluentīs (Vergil Aen. 1.320)
- Tandem progreditur magnā stipante catervā
